The train

Only the train with its old steam locomotives, now disused, breaks the rhythm of this world enclosed by the hills, where time is measured through the rotation of the seasons. The whistle of the train on the railway “that ran along the Belbo night and day”, brings along the curiosity of the world beyond the hills and the desire to escape. It makes you think of “wonders, stations and cities”. It breaks the static and contemplative dimension of the novel.
